Please note the difference
between an Estimate and a Quotation (or a Quote).
An Estimate is not the same
as a Quotation in that the price quoted in a Quotation
is fixed, and the price given in an Estimate is not
An Estimate is therefore just
a calculated idea of the final cost, which may vary
up or down ultimately, according to the time taken
and the materials required.
A Quotation is a fixed price
agreed upon prior to commencement of the work.
If the work is straightforward
then a Quote is usually given, but if the work has
unknown variables then an Estimate is given.
In any event, if any unforeseen
cost arises during work the client is immediately
informed and the matter is discussed prior to the
continuation of any further work.
