Please note the difference
between an Estimate and a Quotation (or a Quote). An
Estimate is not the same as a Quotation in that the
price quoted in a Quotation is fixed, and the price
given in an Estimate is not fixed.
An Estimate is therefore just
a calculated idea of the final cost, which may vary
up or down ultimately, according to the time taken
and the materials required.
A Quotation usually has a nominal
sum, based on the specific circumstances of the work,
added to the cost to allow for any contingencies,
and is therefore invariably higher than the cost estimated
in the Estimate. (Please note that most large contractors
always give Quotations).
In any event, if any unforeseen
cost arises during work the client is immediately
informed and the matter is discussed prior to the
continuation of any further work.
HOMEFIX prefers to give Estimates
as a general rule because these are friendlier to
all parties, and ultimately more economical.
